From FIGHTING Within to CO-CREATING From Within: When the many voices inside us learn to work together

In a recent coaching conversation, Kim spoke about the fear that appears whenever she begins something new.

Kim: “What do I do when I feel I am not enough to start?”

Jen: “What happens to this feeling over time?”

Kim paused.

Kim: “Each time I begin, it is the same. I wonder whether I am good enough—or even suitable. Then, when the results are not great, the feeling becomes stronger.”

Jen: “What else reinforces it?”

Kim: “Thinking about other people. Comparing myself.”

They are further ahead.

They are more confident.

They seem more qualified.

Or I should not be here.

Jen: “What makes this story less true? When do you begin to question it?”

Kim: “When I take action. Or when I remember how much I have learned. I think, ‘Oh, I am here. Everything I have experienced has made me who I am today.’”

Then another voice within Kim appeared.

Kim: “Actually, I can do it. Deep inside, there is still a part of me saying I can. It is like the fighter—the warrior within me. She still believes I can do it.”

Jen: “So there are different parts within you:

The one who is afraid. The one who compares. The one who remembers. The one who takes action. And the warrior who still believes.

What would you like to say to these parts so they can work together—without asking any one part to carry or control all the others?”

The conversation among them could sound like this:

To the fearful one:

Thank you for trying to protect me from disappointment. You may come with me, but you do not have to decide whether I begin.

To the comparing one:

Thank you for showing me what is possible. We can learn from others without using their lives as evidence against our own.

To the one who remembers:

Please remind me how much I have already lived, learned and become. I am not beginning from nothing.

To the warrior:

Thank you for your courage. You do not need to fight everyone—or prove that I deserve to be here. Help me take the next honest step.

“I am not enough” may feel like the final truth. It may be actually the beginning of a deeper inquiry.

Starting something new does not require us to feel completely ready, certain or fearless. Sometimes it asks us to become the inner leader who can hear every voice—and still consciously choose what leads.

Not fear alone. Not comparison. Not even the warrior alone.

But the whole self—rooted in experience, guided by values and willing to take one real step.

We do not need to silence the part that is afraid. We can tell her or him:

“I hear you. You belong. And you do not have to lead this alone.”

Many voices. One inner home. One conscious life.

Our reflection:

When you begin something new, which part of you speaks first?

And which part would you now choose to lead?

Inner leadership begins when we shift from fighting the differences within us to listening to, feeling and appreciating them—and allowing them to co-create one conscious life.
