YOUR LEADERSHIP VOICE IDENTITY: You May Have Already Outgrown Your Old Story
#RebirthLeadership #JenCoaching #LeadershipVoiceIdentity
Yesterday, during a training, someone asked me:
“How can I be confident enough to speak in front of others?”
I asked her:
“Share with us one thing you are proud of yourself for.”
She paused, and her eyes sparked.
Then she told us about an earlier time in her life when she stepped forward to lead a project even she didn't know how to do at first. But somehow, she did it.
As she told the story, everyone would see the sparkle in her eyes and hear her passionate voice.
She then realized she just confidently and naturally spoke in the training room of 60 people.
I smiled.
Because sometimes we ask:
+How can I become confident?
+How can I dare to speak?
+How can I become that person?
While somewhere in our own life...
we already did.
When something mattered enough,
when we wanted it enough,
when life invited us strongly enough—
somehow, we stepped forward.
The problem may not always be that we haven't changed.
Maybe our life has changed faster than the story we still tell about ourselves.
We have already stepped beyond an old story, but we have sometimes still kept the old stories to snuggle ourselves.
But verbally, internally, we keep living inside the old identity:
"I am not confident."
"I cannot speak."
"People won't listen to me."
"People won't understand what I say."
I saw that experience during my journey. Being silent for almost 20 years, then I learned to speak, and I spoke loudly because I wanted to be heard and be understood so I could help others.
That voice served me.
It helped me step forward, speak on stages, lead, teach, and create.
And regularly, I see another invitation.
I don't need to speak loudly 'to be heard.'
I can speak loudly because there is energy in the room.
I can speak softly because the moment asks for softness.
I can be silent because nothing needs to be proved.
The voice may look similar from outside.
But the identity underneath the voice has changed.
From:
“Please hear me.” "Can you hear me?"
to:
“I AM HERE.” "WE ARE HERE NOW".
This is another beautiful dimension of confidence.
Not constantly trying to become confident.
But noticing:
Where have I already outgrown the story I am still telling about myself?
Then allowing today's identity to catch up with today's reality.
---
And I want to pass this exploration on to you.
YOUR VOICE IDENTITY
Your voice is more than public speaking.
It is how visible you allow yourself to become.
How you express what matters.
How you ask.
How you disagree.
How you love.
How you lead.
How you let another human being meet the person you are 'now'—not only the person your old story remembers.
So today, ask yourself:
'What is one moment in my life that already proves I am more confident than I think?'
And then:
'If I no longer needed to speak from an old fear, what would my voice sound like today?'
